Tonic: Boost, pick-me-up, energizer, refresher.

There are countless studies done on the effects of singing to demonstrate its positive effects on our body, but you do not need a study to prove this, anyone who sings knows from experience that it just feels good! However, the clinical effects are fascinating and remind us how we can immediately start feeling an improved state of well-being right now, by simply opening our mouths and singing. Some key benefits of singing include:

Release of Endorphins Singing releases endorphins, your body’s “feel good” chemicals, providing you with an overall lifted feeling. Endorphins are attributed to enhancing the immune system, relieving pain and reducing stress.

Increased Oxygen Deep breathing draws oxygen into your blood stream, giving your brain much needed food for its functioning which improves concentration, memory, and learning. Oxygen is your greatest and first source of energy. It is the fuel required for the proper operation of all body systems. Only 10% of your energy comes from food and water, 90% of our energy comes from oxygen. Oxygen gives our body the ability to rebuild itself, detoxify, and strengthen the Immune System. Oxygen displaces deadly free radicals, neutralizes environmental toxins, and destroys anaerobic (depleted of oxygen) bacteria, parasites, microbes and viruses. Oxygen greatly enhances the body’s absorption of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, and other important nutrients. Oxygen also calms the mind and stabilizes the nervous system.

Toning Muscles Singing improves musculature with better posture and toned abdominals, intercostals muscles and diaphragm. It exercises many of the muscles in the face, head and neck, and reduces muscle tension and promotes increased relaxation.

Relaxation and Stress Reliever By concentrating on your breathing, lyrics, posture, feelings, etc… your mind is taken off of other aspects of life that might be challenging you, it is a built in stress-free zone. “Music is powerful because it is a language that bypasses the intellect, it is a language that we understand intuitively. You do not have to reason through music to comprehend it. The intellect can actually take a rest while one listens to music because the complex combination of sounds is beyond the reasoning process.” So give yourself a boost today! Sing for yourself, for your own personal joy and fulfillment; sing for your overall well-being and happiness. You improve the more you do it. Start singing for your Health, it is the best, cheapest and most portable health tonic available. Whenever you are not feeling good, simply start singing and watch your energy shift. The first step is to simply sing. It is built in to each and every one of us. Enjoy!
